Contemporary Woodland

The design intention of this garden is to take the natural elements that make up a woodland and reconfigure them into a contemporary urban environment.

To achieve this the key elements of colour, texture, height and sound present in a woodland were manipulated and reintroduced into the garden to create a series of defined formal spaces.

Within each space contrasting textures and colours have been positioned to provide points of interest as you pass through the garden towards the sound of water failing, present at the journey’s end.

Planting of the garden was based upon plants of a woodland origin and plants, which contained the chosen colour palette of white, purple, yellow and green. This enabled a visual contrast of colour to be achieved within the garden and against the dark backdrop of the vertical timber cladding.

The overall effect of the garden is to take the language of the ordinary and alter it to create a series of interesting spaces that connect with the user in a strange but familiar way.
